Star Flowers

The old plant is blooming
star flowers
and stretching out,
claiming new space
between the dusty books
and maps of somewhere.

Its green tendrils
gain momentum
in the sunlight and smile,
a mysterious living smile
that draws you in
and down to the h-eart-h.

Now is her time to make beauty
from the effort of growing up
in the light
with roots in the dirt,
from the place of receiving
the nourishment she needs.
