The Sound of Peace

This morning the branches
of my friends, the trees,
were covered with snow.

I saw them leaning, heavy
with the weight of water
on it's way back from ice.

They bent toward me,
as if to kiss
or to whisper.

As if to say,
"I've been waiting
for this chance to show you."

I couldn't ignore them,
so close to my face.
This was such a rare, looming pleasure.

They dropped big wet splashes
of love that landed
on my head and in my eye.

They talked to me
about Peace, what she
looks and sounds like.

"The snow settled on branches
and the silence of everything."
